Identifying Paraphyletic Groups
Paraphyletic groups describe a group that contains a common ancestor, but not all of the descendants. For example, on the below phylogeny we can create a paraphyletic group that contains humans and chimpanzees, but exclude the bonobos. Each of the internal nodes included in the group are highlighted in red
